Born into a “showbiz” family (Father, Alfred, wrote “Upstairs,
Downstairs”; and mother, Jean, was an actress.), Charles Shaughnessy
tried to “do something sensible” and studied law at Cambridge
University. However, theater was in his blood and after a stint in
weekly rep and a couple of TV shows at the BBC, he pursued the love of
his life, actress Susan Fallender, over to Los Angeles where the
couple settled down.

Hardly missing a beat, Shaughnessy’s career continued apace with
roles onstage at the Mark Taper and Ahmanson Theatre, a week on
“General Hospital” (as Holly Scorpio’s nefarious cousin
Alistair,) eight years on “Days of Our Lives,” and a six-year gig
as Maxwell Sheffield on CBS’ hit sitcom “The Nanny.” Other
notable roles followed, including the recurring St. John Powell on
“Mad Men,” Christopher Plover on “The Magicians,” and a
leading role on Broadway, taking over from the legendary John Cullum
in “Urinetown: The Musical.”

Shaughnessy is thrilled and delighted to be making a return to Port
Charles as the enigmatic and sometimes sinister Victor Cassadine and
is thoroughly enjoying being a part of such a talented ensemble.

Married now for 38 years and with two beautiful daughters who make his
world turn, Shaughnessy is both relieved and delighted he gave up the
law.
